Huntsville Naturals Strut Our Stuff

The natural ladies stepped out this weekend in Huntsville, Alabama for two events that allowed sisters to network, discuss hair and have tons of fun.  Candice & Jana of  Knotty and Nice (@kissmycurls) along with Ken Burkeen of Huetiful Steamers set out to paint the town Kinky!

The first event was an evening affair at one of the new additions to the beautiful and trendy Bridgestreet Town Center called Watercress.  The restaurant was the setting for great food and drinks that the hosts provided free of charge to all the attendees.  Unfortunately I couldn't attend this event personally (I'm severely allergic to seafood) but my good friend Precious filled in perfectly for me. The kinky, curly & wavy chicas dined on shrimps, crab cakes, fried oysters, kobe beef sliders & fabulous drinks.  The advice was abundant and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Day two brought me out of the house and in with the fun! This event added another participate in the mix, the ladies of  Love and Sugar company.  The "Make me Somethin Nice" party was the place to be today.  My road partner Annie & I met up with my new partner in crime Precious at the location on Andrew Jackson Way...(it was an adventure to get there trust me).  We were greeted by a gentleman that verified we were on the guest list, $22 cost to attend, given a raffle ticket for our chance to win a Huetiful steamer and a beautiful martini glass with colorful ice cubes and ...Sprite lol..it was great.  The ladies of Love & Sugar Company allowed the ladies of Knotty & Ken to relax and mingle as they put on a show.

We made flower pins from scratch, organic gel using flax seeds and  sugar body scrubs! Ken Burkeen gave a great presentation of the benefits of the steamer and a nice lady (i guess) won the giveaway steamer...3 people & we still didn't come home with one...That's OK, I had a great time and met some beautiful natural hair women.
I normally have to travel to Birmingham, Nashville or Atlanta to attend events with marque players so I am very excited to have a star event in my own backyard.

Enjoy the slide show of the gorgeous Huntsville area ladies showcasing their natural hair!

Excellent write up. I attended the event at watercress and enjoyed meeting some new people. I have to agree that it was so nice to attend an event right here in Huntsville. I look forward to more natural lifestyle events in the future to include hair, bath/body, etc.

I had a great time at both events. I am so happy that Huntsville has these kinds of events for natural women. I enjoyed the conversations and hair tips from all the women.

Embracing a New Chapter: Adventures of a New Grandmother at 50!

As the winds of change blow through my life, I find myself standing at the threshold of a thrilling new chapter: grandmotherhood! Yes, you read that right—I recently celebrated my 50th birthday, and to add an extra sprinkle of joy, my youngest son and his partner are expecting their first child. Cue the confetti and baby giggles! It's been over two decades since I last cradled a newborn in my arms, and the prospect of becoming a grandmother fills me with an indescribable mix of excitement, nostalgia, and a touch of apprehension. While I'm overjoyed at the prospect of cuddling a little bundle of joy again, there's no denying that navigating this new role comes with its own set of challenges and adventures. Balancing the excitement of impending grandmotherhood with the reality of supporting my adult children through this life-changing journey is a delicate dance. From offering sage advice and sharing in their joy to resisting the urge to overwhelm them with too much "h...

Embracing Grace: A Journey to Natural Gray Hair

As the wind blows, so too does the passage of time, marking the transitions in our lives. One such transition that many individuals face is the emergence of gray hair. It's a journey that goes beyond just the physical changes; it's a journey of self-acceptance, confidence, and embracing the natural beauty that comes with age. For me, this journey began when I turned 50 in December 2023. It was a milestone birthday, and I decided it was time to bid farewell to the routine of hair dyeing and embrace the authenticity of my graying locks. Little did I know, this decision would spark a profound transformation, not just in my appearance, but in my outlook on aging. However, my decision to let my gray hair shine wasn't met with unanimous applause. I encountered a barrage of negative feedback, with many projecting their own insecurities onto me, expressing concerns about looking older. Yet, amidst the sea of doubt, one unwavering beacon of support stood by my side – my husband. H...
